The Event: The CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Competition is the most prestigious and respected award for Journalists across the African continent. Nominees from around Africa came together for a week of media events, dinners and entertainment before the final awards evening.

Solid Rock, procured by Geometry Global, was tasked with conceptualizing the technical solution for the red carpet entrance, welcome area, gala dinner and after party portion of the event. The walkway needed to showcase the nominees and drastically change the look and feel of the entrance walkway into the venue. In the welcome area, we provided multiple screens and lighting for the media photo areas and the performance stage for Acoustic Element

With both the gala dinner and after party happening in one room, we needed to create an ambiance which took the event from a formal sit down dinner into an after party environment. With the creative use of trussing to lower the roof and make the room more intimate, truss toners for effect and multiple moving heads, paired with a “wireless stage” (where guests could gather around the stage) this was achieved seamlessly. The headline performance was Cassper Nyovest who was followed by Kid Funk to close off the evening’s entertainment.
